Parrots can thrive in a wide range of temperatures but high 60's to low 80's is ideal. They will survive unhappily at warmer and colder temperatures but not happily. Humidity plays a large role in their comfort.
Parrots are from tropical and sub tropical climates and therefore require a humid environment. 40%-60% is ideal. We keep two humidifiers running at all times and it keeps our birds humidity in the 50% level.
There are flocks of Quaker parrots living outside in New York City, Chicago, and Montreal. How do they survive the freezing temperatures? It's all in how they nest. They live in larger flocks and build multi room condo's together. These nests are maintained and protected by the whole flock.
This is one of our biggest fears!!!!! There are so many reasons why they pluck. It can be from medical or behavioral reasons.
